If you have a reluctant reader, here are some tips to help get them excited about the reading:
- Read together with your child. Not only does this make a special time for the both of you, but it can also help their listening skills and vocabulary. By asking questions and having discussions while reading, they will also learn to better understand and get more involved in what they are reading.
- Let them choose the books! Make sure they are an appropriate age and reading level, but they will learn to love reading a whole lot more if they are enjoying the stories.
- Make an incentive together to earn rewards for reading. For example, after reading 10 books, they can get an ice cream cone or a new bookmark. Read 25, and they get to choose a new book.
