Warm up with a cup of Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate this winter!
There's nothing quite like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold, winter day. This easy Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate recipe comes together in just a few minutes, and only requires 3 ingredients! The addition of salted caramel sauce takes your average hot chocolate into something special that the whole family will love. Not only is it perfect for a chilly winter day, but you can double, triple, or even quadruple the recipe to make a decadent beverage to serve a group for the holidays!
To make a cup of this decadent Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, you will need a few simple ingredients: milk, salted caramel sauce, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows. You will also need a saucepan, spatula, and measuring cups and spoons.
Start by combining the milk, chocolate chips, and salted caramel sauce in a saucepan. Stir the mixture often over medium heat until it starts to steam. Avoid boiling to prevent scalding the milk. Turn the heat to low, and use a whisk to stir the mixture until the chocolate has completely melted. Be careful not to heat it up too much, and stir often to prevent the chocolate from sitting at the bottom of the pan and burning.
For best results, I would recommend using high-quality chocolate and salted caramel sauce
Ladle the salted caramel hot chocolate into your favorite mugs and immediately add whipped cream, marshmallows, and a drizzle of salted caramel sauce!
Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate
Serves: 2Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ¼ cup salted caramel sauce
- Toppings: mini marshmallows, salted caramel sauce (optional)
Directions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine milk, chocolate chips, and salted caramel sauce and heat over medium heat until the mixture is steamy. Be very careful not to boil!
- Whisk the mixture until it becomes a smooth, creamy consistency.
- Pour the salted caramel hot chocolate into your favorite mugs, add mini marshmallows, drizzle with salted caramel sauce, and enjoy immediately.
Notes:
- Storage: Hot chocolate is best enjoyed when served immediately, but can be reheated. For larger batches, you can mix it all up in a slow cooker, and set it to "Keep Warm" when it has been completely mixed together.
- Reheating: Reheat white hot chocolate in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring in between to heat it through evenly.
- Variations:
- Exchange semi-sweet chocolate chips for milk or dark chocolate chips.. Do NOT use cocoa powder, because it makes the hot chocolate too grainy.
- For a dairy-free hot chocolate, swap out the milk for dairy-free alternatives, like oat milk or almond milk. The texture may be a little different, but it still tastes delicious.
