Ursula Resin Shaker Keychain

Every poor, unfortunate soul will love having their own Ursula Resin Shaker Keychain!

Ursula Resin Shaker Keychain

I've always been a fan of Disney Villains, and especially love creating crafts dedicated to them. Made of resin and a whole lot of glitter, this Ursula Resin Shaker Keychain is my latest villain creation, and is so much fun to make. When attached to your keys or purse, this is the perfect accessory for any villain at heart to show off your evil side! This keychain has become one of my favorite pieces, and I am so excited to share how you can make one, too!

New to resin? Be sure to check out Resin 101: Getting Started with Resin!

To make your own Snowflake Resin Shaker Charm, you will need these supplies:

Ursula Resin Shaker Keychain

Prepare about 15ml (1/2 oz) of Amazing Clear Cast according to package directions. Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area and wear disposable gloves. Pour in equal parts of resin and hardener to the mixing cup. Slowly stir the resin together with a stir stick for two minutes. If the resin looks cloudy or has any streaks running through it, you need to keep stirring it until it becomes clear.

Add a generous amount of your favorite purple glitter into the resin and stir it in until it's completely combined. Give the resin a few minutes to "rest" and allow the bubbles to rise to the top. Spritz the top with alcohol to get rid of the air bubbles.

Slowly pour the resin into the Mickey head shaker mold and fill it up to the top edge of the circle in the center. Be careful to not overfill. If you have any drips (like I did), don't worry about cleaning them up. They will peel right off later.

Pop any bubbles that rise to the top by spritzing with alcohol. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well ventilated area for at least 4 hours. DO NOT REMOVE THE RESIN FROM THE MOLD.

Prepare another 15ml (1/2 oz) of Amazing Clear Cast. Again, be sure to work in a well-ventilated area and wear disposable gloves. Slowly stir the resin together with a stir stick for two minutes or until it becomes clear.

Stir in a generous amount of black holographic glitter. Give the resin a few minutes to "rest" and allow the bubbles to rise to the top. Spritz the top with alcohol to get rid of the air bubbles.

Slowly pour the resin into the mold, filling it all the way to the top. Be careful to not overfill.

Pop any bubbles that rise to the top by spritzing with alcohol. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well-ventilated area for 12-24 hours. The resin is completely cured when it is no longer tacky to the touch and easily pulls away from the mold.

Next, mix up about 5ml of Amazing Clear Cast and stir until completely clear. Add in a generous amount of gold glitter into the resin and stir until combined. Let the resin "rest" and allow the bubbles to rise to the top. Spritz the top with alcohol to get rid of the air bubbles.

Pour the gold resin into the Minnie bow mold until it's filled to the top edge. Spritz the surface bubbles with alcohol. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well-ventilated area for 12-24 hours. The resin is completely cured when it is no longer tacky to the touch and easily pulls away from the mold.

"Demolding" is my favorite part of the process! Carefully remove the piece from the mold. Trim away any excess resin with scissors or a craft knife. I love all of that shimmery sparkle! It definitely gives off those magical Ursula vibes.

*If the resin still feels flexible, it may just need more time to cure. Let the piece sit in a warm, flat area to cure for a few hours (or days).

Cut a small square of transparency film and place it on top of the charm. Carefully trace the circle opening with a permanent marker. Cut the transparency film a little bit larger than the traced circle. Remove the marker ink with a little bit of alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Cut the shank off of the Ursula button (I found mine at Joann) using wire cutters. Just a warning to watch out when you do this, because that thing will fly across the room!!

Place Ursula into the center of the charm. If you want her to stay in place, add a drop of strong adhesive to the back and press the button into place. Otherwise, she will move around with the rest of the filler. They are both great options - it just depends on what your preference is.

Next, add fillers. Fillers are what make shaker charms so much fun, and there are SO many options out there. I used mermaid glitter confettimicrobeadsmini pearls, and a couple of mini diamonds. Get creative and have fun with it!

Use a toothpick to apply a thin line of UV resin around the opening of the penguin. Place the transparency film cutout over top and press it down well.

Place the charm under the light for a couple of minutes. Make sure that the edges of the transparency are completely sealed. If there are any gaps, the charm will leak! If any areas need help sticking back down, use the toothpick to re-apply resin and then cure it again.

*This can also be done with super glue! Just use the adhesive instead of the resin and omit the curing under a light.

Lay the charm flat on its back. Add a little bit of super glue to the back of the bow piece and attach it between the ears of the charm.

Carefully cover the top of the charm with UV resin and use a toothpick or a stir stick to drag the resin to the edges. Be careful to not spill any resin over the edges. This will give your charm a smooth, "domed" top that also completely seals the edges of the transparency film. Use a lighter or spritz the surface with alcohol to remove any bubbles.

Place the charm under the light for a couple of minutes until the dome layer is completely cured.

*Don't have UV resin? Use about 5ml of Amazing Clear Cast instead, and let it cure overnight.

At this point, you can keep the charm as-is and give it a shake, but I prefer to give the shaker charm a "waterfall" effect, which makes the fillers slowly float back down to the bottom. To do this, you need to fill the charm with baby oil or glycerin.

Since the opening of the charm has been sealed off, we need to make an opening to fill it. Use a hand drill tool to carefully drill down through the top of the charm. You can actually drill the hole anywhere on the charm, but I usually drill at the top.

Fill an oiler bottle with baby oil or glycerin. Put the needle through the opening and slowly squeeze the bottle to fill the charm with the oil. Take your time - sometimes the oil will go back up through the opening and spill out everywhere! Once full, clean up any oil residue from the opening with a paper towel.

Put some super glue on the end of an eye screw and twist it into the hole. Add a thin layer of UV resin around the hole and cure it. Give the charm a good shake and watch the fillers slowly float down to the bottom! This is also the perfect time to check for any leaks. If you find any, seal the area with UV resin.

Use pliers to hook a jump ring through the eye screw, and then attach the key ring chain to the jump ring. Close the jump ring to connect the key ring to the charm.
