Christmas Crack

Christmas Crack is a classic holiday treat that combines layers of saltine crackers, toffee, and chocolate!

Christmas Crack

One of the best parts of the Christmas season is spending time together making all of the delicious treats! Christmas Crack is a traditional treat that couldn't be easier to make. Simple saltine crackers are topped with homemade toffee and chocolate to create a magically decadent holiday treat. We often make a batch for ourselves to enjoy while watching Christmas movies, and then make more batches to package up to gift to friends and family.

Christmas Crack

First, line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and then spray that bad boy with non-stick cooking spray for good measure. You don't want this sticking to the pan! Once the pan has been prepared, arrange saltine crackers - yes, saltine crackers - in a single layer to cover the entire pan.

Now that the baking sheet has been prepped, it's time to mix up the decadent toffee layer! If you've never made toffee before, don't worry! It's so much easier to make than you'd think.

Combine butter and brown sugar over medium-high heat until it comes to a boil. Make sure to stir constantly so that it doesn't burn! This is VERY important! Once it comes to a boil, let the mixture continue boiling for another 2-3 minutes. The toffee mixture will be extremely hot, so CAREFULLY pour the toffee mixture over the saltine crackers and spread it out evenly with a spatula.

Next, bake the toffee-coated crackers for about 5 minutes to give the crackers some time to absorb the toffee and to bring the toffee up to the "hard-crack" stage. If the toffee doesn't get hot enough, it will be chewy instead of hard.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately top with chocolate chips. Let the chips sit for a few minutes, and then spread the melted chocolate out evenly over the surface with a spatula.

While the chocolate is still melty, top the Christmas Crack with chopped pecans, walnuts, or almonds and a generous amount of Christmas sprinkles for a festive touch. Once it's been topped to your liking, leave the pan cool completely to room temperature.

Once cooled, remove the Christmas Crack from the pan and break it into pieces. You can use a knife to cut it into equal-sized pieces, or break it up by hand.

The Christmas Crack is now ready to serve! Enjoy this delicious treat while watching Christmas movies, arrange the pieces on a plate for your next holiday party, or package pieces up in small bags and gift to friends and family.
