Resin Butterfly Wing Earrings

These vibrant Resin Butterfly Wing Earrings are easy to make and look great with any outfit!

Resin Butterfly Wing Earrings

Butterflies are all about transformation and finding joy, which I think is something we can all relate to. These handmade Resin Butterfly Wing Earrings are made with a shimmery pigment that color shifts in the sunlight, similar to a real butterfly. Not only do they add a vibrant pop of color to your wardrobe, but they would be a great gift idea to share with friends! These earrings are a lot of fun to make, and are such a quick and easy project for resin crafters of any level.

Prepare about 5ml of Amazing Clear Cast according to package directions. Pour in equal parts resin and hardener to a mixing cup. Slowly stir the resin together with a stir stick for two minutes or until combined. If the resin looks cloudy or has any streaks running through it, you need to keep stirring it until it becomes clear.

Add a little bit of black mica powder and stir together until evenly incorporated. Use a stir stick or toothpick to carefully just the bottom area of the mold, but be careful not to fill above the raised edges.

Spritz the resin with 91% alcohol to remove surface bubbles. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed area for at least 6 hours. **DO NOT REMOVE THE RESIN FROM THE MOLD!**

Remove any debris from the open part of the butterfly wing mold. Use a small powder brush to lightly apply teal chameleon mica powder to just the top part of the butterfly wing. The powder sticks like magic to the silicone, and will transfer directly to the resin once it's cured.

Clean the brush, and then add some color to the hearts on the bottom part of the butterfly wing design. I used the grape chameleon mica powder to get a shimmery purple/blue shift color.

There is another mold that comes with the butterfly wings that include a top piece for the earrings. I dusted those pieces with the same purple powder so that they will match the butterfly earrings.

Next, prepare 10ml of Amazing Clear Cast according to package directions.

Slowly pour the resin into each of the earring molds, and fill them all the way to the top.

Spritz the resin with 91% alcohol to remove surface bubbles. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed area for 24 hours.

Now, for my favorite part of the resin process - demolding! Removing a piece from the mold is always so exciting!! Carefully remove the cured earring pieces from the molds. Trim away any excess resin with scissors or a craft knife. Sand down edges, if necessary, and bring back the shine with clear spray sealant.

If the resin still feels flexible, it may just need more time to cure. Let the pieces sit in a warm, flat area to cure for a few hours (or days) to completely harden.

Last, but not least, attach the findings to the earrings. Use pliers to open a two jump rings for each earring. Hook the rings through the holes in the top of the butterfly wing earring piece and attach it to the top piece.

Next, add another ring to the top hole and attach it to the earring hook. Close the jump rings with the pliers. Make sure they are completely closed so that the hooks don't come off!
