Make family game night a whole lot sweeter with a custom resin domino set that look just like Cosmic Brownies!
My family loves game nights, and they are a great way to spend quality time together. I was wanting to make a new set of resin dominoes, and was inspired by one of our favorite treats - Cosmic Brownies! Dominoes is a classic and timeless game that kids of all ages can enjoy - even if you just like to knock them over. This is a fun and simple resin craft for beginners, and a custom set of dominoes is such a creative gift to share with friends and family!!

SAFETY FIRST: Before getting started, wear disposable gloves, protect your workspace, and be sure to work in a well-ventilated area!
Prepare about 4oz of Amazing Clear Cast according to package directions. Pour in equal parts of resin and hardener to a mixing cup. Slowly stir the resin together with a stir stick for two minutes or until combined. If the resin looks cloudy or has any streaks running through it, you need to keep stirring it until it becomes clear.
Add a little bit of dark brown mica powder to the resin and stir together until evenly incorporated. Use the stir stick to help you carefully fill each of the dominoes about halfway.

Use a straw, heat gun, or spritz with 91% alcohol to remove any surface bubbles. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed area for at least 6 hours. **DO NOT REMOVE THE RESIN FROM THE MOLD!**
Prepare another 4oz of Amazing Clear Cast according to package directions. Pour in equal parts of resin and hardener to a mixing cup. Slowly stir the resin together with a stir stick for two minutes or until combined. If the resin looks cloudy or has any streaks running through it, you need to keep stirring it until it becomes clear. Add a little bit of light brown mica powder to the resin this time, and stir together until evenly incorporated.
Slowly fill the domino molds to the top with resin, but be careful not to overfill. Lightly spritz the mold with 91% alcohol to remove surface bubbles.
Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well ventilated area for 24 hours. You will know that the resin is completely cured when it is no longer tacky to the touch.
Now for my favorite part, demolding! Once the resin has completely cured, carefully remove each of the domino pieces from the molds.
Trim away any excess resin with scissors or a craft knife. Sand down edges, if necessary, and bring back the shine with clear spray sealant. If the resin still feels flexible, it may just need more time to cure. Let the pieces sit in a warm, flat area to cure for a few hours (or days) to completely harden.
Now to give these dominoes the iconic Cosmic Brownie topping - rainbow candy-coated "chocolate chips"! Color in the dots of the dominoes with pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple to look like the brownies.
To do this, you can use either paint pens or apply acrylic paints with a dotting tool. Dip the tool into the paint, and fill in the dots with random color placements. Any spilled or mistakes with paint can be gently wiped away with a little bit of alcohol.
How to Play Dominoes:
- Place the dominoes face-down and shuffle them around. The first person to pick up a "double", or a domino with the same pattern on both sides, gets to go first! Put the dominoes back down and reshuffle.
- With 2 players, each player draws seven dominoes. With 3-4 players, each player draws five dominoes. The remaining dominoes (the boneyard) are left face-down on the table.
- The first player can put any domino down from their hand to start the game.
- Going clockwise, each player must place a domino down to match one end ONLY of the domino already on the table. If you start running out of room, you can place a domino down at a right angle. "Doubles" may be placed perpendicularly, and can be matched on all four sides (as shown above).
- If a player cannot make a match, they must select a domino from the "boneyard" and forfeits their turn.
- The game ends when a player uses all of their dominoes, and the "boneyard" is empty. If moves can no longer be made, the player with the least amount of dominoes left in their hand is the winner and goes first in the next round!
