Glow-in-the-Dark Resin Alien Earrings

These Glow-in-the-Dark Resin Alien Earrings are out of this world!

Glow-in-the-Dark Resin Alien Earrings

I've been listening to a lot of podcasts lately about UFO and alien encounters, and I love every minute of it! All of this extraterrestrial talk inspired me to make some Glow-in-the-Dark Alien Earrings using resin that really do glow! This would be a great project for resin crafters of any level, and are a great gift or item to sell in your small business. These earrings are a lot of fun to make, and I hope you feel inspired to try making some for yourself.

New to resin? Be sure to check out Resin 101: Getting Started with Resin!

To make your own set of Glow-in-the-Dark Resin Alien Earrings, you will need these supplies:

SAFETY FIRST: Before getting started, wear disposable glovesprotect your workspace, and be sure to work in a well-ventilated area!

Prepare 20ml of Amazing Clear Cast resin according to package directions. Pour in equal parts of resin and hardener to the mixing cup. Slowly stir the resin together with a stir stick for two minutes. If the resin looks cloudy or has any streaks running through it, you need to keep stirring it until it becomes clear.

Split the resin into two mixing cups. In one resin cup, add a little bit of green glow-in-the-dark mica powder a generous amount of neon green glitter. In the other, add in a generous amount of silver holographic glitter. Stir the resin mixtures with clean stir sticks until evenly incorporated. Give the resin a few minutes to "rest" and allow the bubbles to rise to the top.

Slowly pour the green resin into the alien earring mold and fill to the top. Pour the silver resin into the small circle portion of the circle earring mold. To prevent a lot of trimming later, make sure not to overfill the molds! Let the resin sit for a few minutes, then use a straw, heat gun, or spritz with 91% alcohol to remove any air bubbles that rise to the top.

Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well-ventilated area for 12-24 hours. You will know that the resin is completely cured when it is no longer tacky to the touch.

Carefully remove the cured pieces from the molds. Trim away any excess resin with scissors or a craft knife. If the resin still feels flexible, it may just need more time to cure. Let the pieces sit in a warm, flat area to cure for a few hours (or days).

To assemble the earrings, you will need two jump rings and two earring posts - one for each earring. First, use some strong adhesive or even some UV resin to attach the earring posts to the back of the small circle earring pieces.

Next, open the jump rings using jewelry pliers. Hook the rings through the openings in both earring pieces, and then use the pliers to close the rings.

I just can't get enough of these earrings! The bright green aliens are so fun, and I love all of the extra sparkle. These earrings will be such a fun set to wear this summer to add a pop of color to any outfit.

When you're in the dark, the alien earrings definitely glow! For a more brilliant glow, place the earrings under bright light for a few minutes to "charge" up the glow-in-the-dark mica powder. I am so excited to wear these earrings everywhere I go and to make more pairs to share with friends. As always, I would love to see what you're making!
