SAFETY FIRST: Before getting started, wear disposable gloves, protect your workspace, and be sure to work in a well-ventilated area!
Carefully arrange the dried flowers and greenery into the empty bookmark and page holder molds. The flowers are very fragile, so I would recommend using tweezers. Get creative using a variety of flower colors, shapes, and sizes!
Next, prepare 5ml (per bookmark) and 15-20ml (per page holder) of Amazing Clear Cast resin according to package directions. Pour in equal parts of resin and hardener to the mixing cup*. Slowly stir the resin together with a stir stick for two minutes. If the resin looks cloudy or has any streaks running through it, you need to keep stirring it until it becomes clear.
*These silicone mixing cups are my favorite! They are reusable, so there is there less waste - which is a big deal for me. There are easy-to-read measuring marks on the outside of the cup, it's flexible for easy mixing, and clean-up is a snap once the resin has cured! If you use resin often, I highly recommend giving them a try.
Slowly pour the resin into the molds until the flowers are just covered or about halfway full. You don't want to fill the molds up all the way. If any flowers have pop up out of the resin, use a toothpick or tweezers to gently push them back down.
This step is optional, but I love the added sparkle that gold foil flakes add to the project! Use a toothpick to add small bits of foil to the resin and spread them evenly throughout.
Pop any bubbles that rise to the top using a heat gun, blowing through a straw, or by spritzing with alcohol. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well ventilated area for at least 2 hours.
Prepare another 5ml (per bookmark) and 15-20ml (per page holder) of Amazing Clear Cast resin according to package directions. Add in a generous amount of metallic or pearl white mica powder into the mixing cup. Stir the resin mixture well for a minute or two until evenly incorporated. Give the resin a few minutes to "rest" and allow the bubbles to rise to the top.
Pour the resin into the bookmark and page holder molds, filling them up the rest of the way. Be careful to not overfill.
Pop any bubbles that rise to the top using a heat gun, blowing through a straw, or by spritzing with alcohol. Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed, well ventilated area for 12-24 hours. The resin is ready to remove from the mold(s) when it is no longer tacky to the touch and the mold easily pulls away from the sides.
"Demolding" is my favorite part of the process. Carefully remove the pieces from the molds. Trim away any excess resin with scissors or a craft knife. I love all of that shimmery sparkle paired with the natural flowers!
If the resin still feels flexible, it may just need more time to cure. Let the piece sit in a warm, flat area to cure for a few hours (or days).
Not only is this Dried Flower Resin Bookmark + Page Holder a fantastic set for book lovers, teachers, and librarians, but they would also make a great gift!
