Dyeing Easter eggs is is one of my favorite traditions, and there are so many fun ways to do it! Instead of making eggs a solid color, we made some tie-dye inspired Easter eggs. They are SO easy to dye, and the kids are going to love it! Not only will you save money by not getting store-bought kits, but you probably already have everything you need at home. This is a fun Easter activity that's totally safe to do with kids, and you can color as many or as little as you'd like!

To make your own tie-dyed eggs for Easter, you will need a few simple things; like boiled eggs* (white or brown), coffee filters, rubber bands, water-based food coloring or food-safe markers, and paper towels. Disposable gloves are highly recommended, but are totally optional.

*If you're looking for an easier way to boil your eggs, I love using my Dash egg cooker!!

Place a boiled egg in the center of a coffee filter. Wrap the egg tightly, and bring the ends of the filter together at the top of the egg. Hold the ends in place with a rubber band

*Don't have coffee filters? Wrap the eggs in paper towels instead!

Now is the time to put on gloves, and I'd also recommend putting something down to protect your workspace from the dye. Using one color at a time, add drops of food coloring in random spots around the egg.

Repeat the process with different colors* until the coffee filter around the egg is almost completely covered with food coloring. The dye spreads as it dries, so a little goes a long way. If using markers, scribble colors all around the egg and spritz the coffee filter with water.

*For best results, I would recommend keeping it simple by using the 4 basic colors: red, green, blue, and yellow. If you add more, the colors can become a muddy looking brown in some areas.

Let the eggs sit for at least 5 minutes. The longer the eggs stay wrapped, the more vibrant the colors will be. Of course, the colors will also be a lot more saturated if you use more food coloring.

Put on gloves again, if desired, and unwrap the eggs. Gently pat them dry with a paper towel to remove any excess dye. Set the tie-dyed eggs back into the carton to dry completely.
