Kids will love making edible Easter Peeps Houses using colorful Easter candy!
Hippity hoppity, Easter is on its way! If you're looking for a fun Easter activity to do with the kids, this Easter Peeps House is it! Made using Peeps, Pop-Tarts, and your favorite Easter candies, this tasty craft can be used as a centerpiece or as a festive snack for the kids. This would also be a creative way to use up leftover candy once the holiday is over!
Making Easter Peeps Houses is such a simple project that kids of all ages can make! You just need a few colorful ingredients, starting with Peeps Marshmallow Bunnies, Frosted Confetti Cupcake Pop-Tarts, strawberry frosting, edible Easter grass, M&Ms, and festive Easter sprinkles. You will also need a knife and a piping bag.
Each Peeps house will need a total of five Pop-Tarts. Use a sharp knife to cut two of them into equal halves. On another two Pop-Tarts, cut the corners off of the top edge at 45º angles. To make the pieces equal, stack the cut Pop-Tart on top of the one to be cut, and use it as a guide.
Save the last Pop-Tart for later.
Fill a sandwich bag or piping bag with strawberry frosting*. Cut the tip of the bag so that you can easily pipe the frosting out. You will only need about a ⅓ cup of icing for each Peeps House.
Add a line of frosting on the right (short) edge of one of the halved Pop-Tarts. Line that edge up with the back of one of the Pop-Tarts to make one half of the house. Repeat this process for the other matching Pop-Tart pieces, and then put the two halves of the house together using frosting as the glue.
*Make your own frosting: Mix together 1 ¼ cup powdered sugar and 2 Tbsp milk until combined. You will want it to be a thick consistency, so add more powdered sugar, if necessary. Then add in a drop of strawberry extract and some red or pink food coloring.
Next, add some frosting around 3 edges of the last two halved Pop-Tarts, and place them onto the roof of the house.
Apply more frosting to all of the seams of the house, and smooth them out with a knife or your finger if necessary. This just helps to fill in any gaps and will help hold the house together.
Pour festive Easter Sprinkles to the seams on the roof. For best results, do this right after the frosting has been put on so that the sprinkles will stick in place. If the frosting is set up, the sprinkles will likely fall right off.
Add some frosting to the back of a Peeps Bunny and stick it to the front of the house. Next, sprinkle a generous amount of bubblegum Easter grass around the bottom edge of the house.
Once completed, the Peeps House is ready to be eaten up or put on display for the Easter holiday!
