Use 3 simple ingredients to make a homemade Shamrock Shake to enjoy in the comfort of your own home!
There are so many delightful St. Patrick's Day treats, and one of my favorites is the iconic Shamrock Shake that McDonald's sells all through March. If you're like me, you crave this magical concoction all year long, and not being able to get one makes it that much more crave-able, right?!! Well, lucky for us, I've got a homemade version of the Shamrock Shake that tastes just like the real thing and only needs (wait for it) 3 ingredients!!! Go grab your festive straws and get ready to drink up!!
This magical, minty milkshake starts with the base of three ingredients: ice cream, milk, mint extract, and of course green food coloring to give it a pop of color!! Easy enough, right? Blend those ingredients together in a personal blender to make 1-2 shakes, or use a larger blender to make enough for a crowd.
To make your milkshake look as festive as possible, I like to add a drizzle of chocolate syrup around the inside of the glasses before pouring in the milkshake. You'll also need some toppings to make this milkshake bring all the leprechauns to the yard, like whipped cream, sprinkles, and a bright red cherry on top!
3-Ingredient Shamrock Shake
Servings: 2 8oz shakesPrep time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream
- ½ cup whole milk
- ½ tsp mint extract
- 2 drops green gel food coloring
- Chocolate syrup, for drizzling
- Whipped cream, for topping
- Green sanding sugar or sprinkles, optional
- Maraschino cherry, optional
Directions:
- Put two empty glasses in the freezer.
- In a blender, combine ice cream, milk, mint extract, and green food coloring and blend until creamy.
- Remove the glasses from the freezer, and drizzle chocolate syrup around the insides.
- Pour the milkshake mixture evenly into the two glasses.
- Top milkshakes with whipped cream, green sanding sugar or sprinkles, and maraschino cherry.
- Enjoy immediately, with or without festive straws!
Notes:
- If using gel food coloring, 1-2 small drops is enough for both milkshakes. Liquid food dye isn't as concentrated, so you may need about 1 teaspoon of food coloring.
- To thin: add 1-2 Tablespoons of milk
- To thicken: reduce the milk by 1-2 Tablespoons
Variations: Get creative and mix things up to make this minty milkshake recipe all your own!
- Crush up Oreo cookies (regular or mint) for some extra crunch
- Use chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla for some extra chocolatey mint magic
- Add 2 oz of vodka, whiskey, or Irish Cream for a boozy dessert
Not only are these 3-Ingredient Mint Oreo Truffles incredibly festive, but they are a simple and sweet treat to share for St. Patrick's Day.
