This Oven Mitt Gift Idea is the kind of holiday gift that everyone will love!
First, you will need to hit your local dollar store, Walmart, or Target to grab a basic oven mitt. There are so many cute ones out there now to choose from, so narrowing it down will probably be the hardest part of this entire project! Just make sure that there isn't any writing already on the oven mitt. I found this striped oven mitt in modern holiday colors at Walmart for $2!
Upload the "Hot Stuff" cut file (personal use only) into Design Space and size the image to fit your oven mitt. After you've resized the image, move to the next step to cut it out.
*Here's a great tutorial on how to upload your own images into Cricut Design Space.
Before cutting the HTV, make sure to mirror your image! If you don't, your design will be backwards when you put it on the project. To do this, select the mat thumbnail in Design Space before cutting, and click the "Mirror" toggle to reverse the image
Cut the vinyl with a Cricut or other machine. "Weed" away the excess vinyl by removing all of the parts that don't belong in the design. I usually peel away the outer edges first (starting at the corner) and work my way around the design. Then I use weeding tools to easily remove smaller pieces of the design, like the insides of letters.
Center the HTV on the top of the oven mitt and heat up the EasyPress Mini. Any heat press will work, but this little one does the job perfectly! Heat the press up to the second bar.
Press the HTV down onto the oven mitt with medium pressure. Because it's already pretty padded, you don't need to use an EasyPress Mat.
Carefully peel the carrier sheet away from the vinyl after it' been pressed. If any parts of the HTV come up with the carrier sheet, lay it back down and press the vinyl again to make sure it sticks to the oven mitt.
Now that the oven mitt is personalized, it's time to finish packaging the gift. Choose a variety of baking goods, like candies, chocolate chips, holiday sprinkles, cookie mixes, baking utensils, and so much more! Have fun scouring the dollar store for creative items to include in the gift.
Tie the opening of the oven mitt closed with a coordinating festive ribbon. Most importantly, don't forget to add a gift tag!! I hope you are as excited about this gift idea as I am, and feel inspired to share this with someone this holiday. As always, I love to see your projects!
