Add a pop of color to your favorite books with a handmade Felt Rainbow Bookmark (and Free Cut File)!
My daughter is the biggest bookworm I know, and I love coming up with different bookmarks for her to use. She's been traveling with her books a lot lately, so I wanted to make something that was a little more sturdy than traditional paper bookmarks, and less likely to get lost. This no-sew felt rainbow bookmark is not only colorful, but it's an easy project for both kids AND teens make on their own! The addition of the elastic to the bookmark will keep it easy to save your place, and won't fall out when books are moved around.
To make your own Felt Rainbow Elastic Bookmark, you will need these supplies:
- Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore machine
- Rainbow Bookmark Cut File (personal use only)
- Felt - white, pink/red. orange, yellow, green, blue, purple
- 5/8" Fold-Over Elastic
- Fabric Adhesive
Upload the "Rainbow Bookmark" cut file (link in supply list) into Design Space. There is a solid rainbow piece and the colored rainbow stripes included in the design. I made my rainbow 3" wide, but you can adjust the size to fit your style - just make sure you keep everything grouped!
Select the solid rainbow piece and click "duplicate" in the top right corner. You will need this second piece to help make your bookmark sturdier.
*Here's a great tutorial on how to upload your own images into Cricut Design Space.
Both the Cricut Maker and Cricut Explore machines will cut felt beautifully. If you don't want to use a machine, you can hand-cut the pattern out using scissors. Be careful not to lose any of the small pieces!
Lay one of the white solid rainbow pieces down, facing up. Cut a length of decorative elastic measuring 14"-15". Place some fabric adhesive on each end of the elastic and place them down on the felt. Make sure the elastic isn't twisted. Set this aside to dry completely.
Isn't this rainbow the cutest? I love how bright and happy the felt colors are. This piece alone could be used for so many projects, like a patch on a jacket, added to decor, and so much more!
Add some fabric adhesive to the back of the rainbow. Carefully line it up with the other solid rainbow piece, with the elastic ends sandwiched in between the two layers of felt. Hold the pieces in place until the adhesive sets. If you want, you can hold the felt layers together with clothespins.
Once the adhesive has dried completely, the bookmark is ready for use! Wrap the elastic bookmark around with the felt on the front cover of the book, and then slide the pages through the elastic on the other side of the cover to keep your place.
This is such a fun and simple craft for kids and teens to make to keep their spot saved in their favorite books. It would also make a fantastic gift to share with your favorite readers! I would love to hear if you decide to try this project out for yourself. As always, I would love to see your creations! Share yours on Instagram, Facebook, or leave a comment/photo on the project pin on Pinterest! #AFMCrafts

Adorable! For some reason my Cricut will not cut felt properly, but I wish it did because this is too cute! Thanks for sharing with us on Happiness is Homemade at LifeasaLEOWife.com. I'd love if you'd come by & share on our newest link party, Craft Creators, as well. It's open Thursdays at 6am CST thru Mondays at 11:59pm. I think the readers of that party would love to see this. Hope to see you there!
