Create a set of Harry Potter Potion Ornaments to add some sparkle and magic to your Christmas tree!
I've been having so much fun creating a Harry Potter-themed Christmas Tree for my home this year! These Potion Bottle Ornaments are sparkling new, so to speak, and look so magical on my tree. They are so simple to make, and you can customize the looks by playing with different colors, sizes, and shapes of glitter for each potion. Not only do these make amazing ornaments, but they would also look good on any Harry Potter fan's shelf!
To make these Harry Potter Potion Ornaments, you will need these supplies:
- Glass Corked Bottles
- Harry Potter Potion Labels
- Adhesive
- Floor Finish or Polycrylic
- Glitter
- Small Mixing Cups
- Jewelry Eye Screws
- Fishing Wire
When creating potions, you need to label them first! You can easily create your own, but I printed out these fabulous Harry Potter Potion Labels designed by Pineapple Paper Co. I sized the labels to fit my bottles, and then cut them out right around the image.
Next I applied a small amount of adhesive on the backs of the labels and applied them to the outside of the bottles. I recommend washing the bottles well before starting the project for best results.
To "fill" the bottles, I used the same technique as making glittered ornaments. First, carefully pour a small amount of floor finish or polycrylic into a small mixing cup. Pour the liquid into one of the potion bottles and slowly swirl it around until the inside is completely covered. In the right light, you can see any uncovered areas. Pour the liquid back into the cup and hold the bottle upside down for a minute or two to let any excess drain out.
Decide what "color" you want your potion to be, and add that color of glitter into another small mixing cup. For the Felix Felicis, I used a mix of different chunky and fine gold glitters.
Pour the glitter into the bottle, and swirl it around the bottle. Alternatively, you can put a thumb over the bottle opening and shake the bottle well to disperse the glitter. Either way, the glitter will stick to the floor finish or polycrylic coating the inside of the bottle. Pour the excess glitter back into the mixing cup.
Repeat the process for all of the potion bottles. Don't be afraid to have fun with the glitter combinations and get creative! This technique is a great option for ornaments, because while they look full, the ornaments are actually lighter because the glitter is only a light coating!
To transform the potion bottles into ornaments, add a little bit of adhesive on the end of a jewelry eye screw and twist the screw into the top of the cork. Apply a little bit of adhesive to the bottom edge of the cork and push it into the top of the bottle.
Cut a length of fishing wire and tie it tightly through the eye screws to create a hanger for each ornament.
Once hung on the tree the wire is invisible, making it appear that the potions are floating! I am absolutely loving these Harry Potter Potion Bottle Ornaments and how simple they were to make for my Harry Potter-themed Christmas tree!
