Unlike the Heffleys, my family is no stranger to home improvement projects. We moved into an older home a few years ago that desperately needed some upgrades. Our biggest project to date has been remodeling our master bathroom. Though our problems weren't as dramatic as the ones in the book, I can agree that home renovations come with unexpected surprises! It may be tough at the time, but it is all worth it once it's finished!
My daughter is constantly wanting to learn how things work, so we've always tried to include her in our home improvement projects. She loves to help paint, install outlet covers, pick out samples, and especially enjoyed the demolition of our bathroom! I think it's important to include your kids in home projects whenever necessary. It teaches them to help care for the house they live in, and these are important skills that they will use throughout their lives (especially as adults).
My daughter was inspired by Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball to design her own dream bedroom. This printable blank floor plan will get kids thinking outside the box on what their dream bedroom could possibly look like, and is such a creative way to open the conversation up about actual home improvement possibilities.
There are two floor plans included in the download: a traditional overhead floor plan to draw up the room and a 3D version (as shown above) to add more detail to wall and floor colors, decor, and furniture setup.
Some things you should know before downloading:
*Artsy-Fartsy Mama printables are for PERSONAL USE ONLY (okay for home, school & libraries).
*You may NOT modify, sell, redistribute, or claim the design as your own.
*Please do not remove the credits/watermarks.
*If you'd like to share this project, you may use ONE photo and credit must be given to Artsy-Fartsy Mama and linked back to this post.
After they have sketched out the dream bedroom plan in pencil, gather some colored pencils, crayons, or markers to bring the dream to life! My daughter has had so much fun making different versions of her own dream bedrooms, each with their own awesome features. I loved seeing her creativity come through as she drew up her plans knowing anything was possible!
My daughter absolutely loved this book and has already read it through multiple times. Whether your child is a reluctant reader or a bookworm, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is such a fun collection of books. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball is available in stores now and would make a great gift!
