No chimney? No problem. Make Santa's Magic Key Ornament to make sure those presents get into the house!
Do you have a child who worries about how Santa is going to get in your home to deliver presents on Christmas because you don't have a chimney? I sure do. She wasn't really understanding just how or where a magical fireplace would show up, which just made even more questions. So, I decided to make a Magical Key that we can hang on our front door on Christmas Eve that only Santa can use to visit us. Until then, we can hang it on our tree so we don't forget! This Santa's Magic Key Ornament is easy to make! Check out the tutorial below to see how to make one for yourself.
To make your own ornament, you'll need:
- blank MDF tag
- key - I found mine at Michael's for $1
- white acrylic paint
- adhesive vinyl
- Cricut Explore Air 2 or other cutting machine
- twine or ribbon
Paint the tag with a couple layers of white acrylic paint. Let the paint dry between coats. If you get any brush strokes or bumps showing after the paint dries, use a fine sandpaper to smooth it out. Then to protect the paint, I spray painted a clear sealant over the entire tag.
I typed up the words "Santa's Magic Key" in Design Space and cut it out with my Cricut Explore Air 2. Grab a Christmas pack of vinyl or choose from a large selection of adhesive vinyl to easily customize this project to coordinate with your holiday decor!
Weed the vinyl and place some transfer tape or try an easy transfer tape hack to apply the vinyl to the painted tag.
Peel the transfer tape off and the tag is done. Now we just need to attach the key to the tag! The paint scratched off a little easy on the key, so I spray painted a thin coat of clear sealant over the top.
Tie the key to the tag with twine or ribbon. Make sure to leave a loop at the top!
Hang the ornament on the tree until Christmas Eve when you can hang it on the door knob so the kids don't have to worry about Santa not being able to get in the house to deliver presents!
