After I made my jewelry stand months ago, my daughter wanted one for herself. This DIY Neon Jewelry Stand is costs less than $10 and is simple enough for kids of any age to create (though it will be easier for kids ages 8-12). Depending on the paints you use, the color possibilities are endless!

First, you'll need two terra cotta plates. I used a 9.75 and a 7 inch plate. You can find these almost anywhere and they're not very expensive at all. You'll also need a candleholder. I found this glass one at the dollar store!

First, paint the plates with acrylic paint in the color of your choice with a sponge brush. I used Americana paint in Snow (Titanium) White. To completely cover the terra cotta color, you'll need about 2-3 coats, maybe more depending on your paint and paint color. Let the paint dry between coats.

Once the paint is completely dry, you can get to customizing!! I absolutely love the Painters® Paint Markers. I used the Painters® Neon Brights Paint Markers, and colored around the outer lip and the inner rim of the plates with different neon colors. You can add any designs you want, and these markers are perfect for doodling on projects like this!! The Painters® go on smoothly and the colors are vibrant. After letting the first coat dry, I added another one. For darker colors, you might need another coat or two to get the best results.

After I was done with the Painters®, I decided the plates needed a little bit of shine. With a Silver Metallic Marker, I lined around all the edges where I used the Painters®.

Now that the plates are all decorated, it's time to assemble the jewelry stand! Elmer's has a new X-treme School Glue and it is amazing for projects like this!! You can use it for everything from craft items to science fair and other school projects. The extra strength formula works on a variety of surfaces like paper, photos, wood, craft sticks, fabric, ribbon, buttons, gems, craft materials, foam sheets, foam board, poster board, cardboard, some plastics, some metals and much more!

Apply a good amount of X-treme School Glue around the top of the candleholder. You could also put some on the bottom of the plate for a stronger bond, but I found just adding a thick layer to the candleholder worked great. The glue goes on white like the original school glue, but it dries clear. Even though it's tough, it is still washable and will come out of clothing.

Immediately place the candleholder glue side down on the bottom of the smaller plate. Make sure it's centered, and then place the larger plate on top to keep pressure on the candleholder while it dries. Let the plates dry somewhere where they won't be disturbed. Allow to dry 24 hours for the strongest bond.

Once the glue is dry (it will be clear), you can flip the smaller plate over and then center it on the inside of the larger plate. You can glue it in place if you want for more stability, but it will stand fine on it's own.

Now all you have to do is add your jewelry to the jewelry stand!! My daughter loves having a fun place to put her jewelry and it makes it easy for her to find which accessories she wants to wear each day.
